Enhance your posts by tagging Instagram accounts directly in your photos or videos, making your content more engaging and connected. The "user tagging" feature is now available in the Scheduler App!

What is an Instagram User Tag?

An Instagram user tag in a post links a user’s profile to a specific photo or video. When you tag someone, their username appears on the post, they get notified, and the post may appear (based on their privacy settings) in their "Photos of You" section. User tagging helps identify who’s in the content and encourages engagement.

Mention vs. Tagged

Tagged

Place a user’s profile directly on a photo or video. The user is notified, and the post may appear (based on their privacy settings) on their profile under “Tagged Photos.”

Mention

Use “@username” in a post description to alert someone and link to their profile. They will receive a clickable notification.

Mentions are for conversations, while user tags are for associating people with specific content. You can learn more about Mentions here. 💡

How to Tag Users in a Post

  1. Upload a file to the post.

  2. Click the "Tag users" button below.

  3. Tap the area of the photo where you want to add a tag and enter the username.

  4. Confirm the Instagram user by pressing the "Add tag" button.

Ensure you enter the correct username. I recommend copying the name directly from Instagram to avoid any typos. Tagging Private accounts is not supported due to Instagram limitations.💡

  5. Once you have all the users tagged, hit the "Save" button.

To double-check your tagged users, hover over the tag icon in the bottom left corner of your post to see the tagged accounts.

Why is user tagging users in your posts a good idea?

Tagging users on Instagram is a smart move for a few reasons:

  1. Boosts Your Reach: When you tag people, your post shows up in their tagged photos, getting your content in front of more eyes.

  2. Builds Connections: Tagging is a way to give a shoutout to friends, collaborators, or brands. It’s like saying, "Hey, you’re part of this moment."

  3. Increases Engagement: People love seeing themselves tagged. It’s almost a guarantee they’ll like, comment, or share, which means more engagement for you.

  4. Shows Credibility: Tagging relevant accounts, especially well-known ones, adds a layer of legit-ness to your post.

  5. Cross-Promo Magic: If you’re teaming up with someone, tagging them is a no-brainer. It’s free promotion for both of you.

  6. Recognition: It’s a simple way to show appreciation and give credit where it’s due, which people always appreciate.

In short, user tagging on Instagram isn’t just about mentions—it’s about making the most of your posts.

  2. Event Shoutouts: Tag event attendees or organizers to give them a direct mention.

  3. Behind-the-Scenes: Showcase your team members or contributors by tagging them in BTS content.

  4. Give Credit: Tag photographers, stylists, or creatives who helped bring your vision to life.

  5. Contests & Giveaways: Tag the winners or participants to acknowledge their involvement and boost engagement.

Limitations

  • Private accounts cannot be tagged in posts due to official Instagram API limitations, which apply to all third-party tools.

  • Additionally, it’s not possible to tag users who have disabled tagging in their profile settings.

  • You can tag up to 20 users in one post.

  • It is not possible to tag users in a Story or video carousel.

  • User tagging is not available for Manual Publishing. However, you can still do in the final publishing steps on the Instagram native app.
