How to Connect Instagram via Instagram Login

Connect Instagram to ZoomSphere directly with your Instagram credentials, no Facebook Page needed.

Written by Karolina

Connecting your Instagram account to ZoomSphere just got simpler. Instead of juggling business settings and permissions on Facebook, you can now connect Instagram directly using your Instagram login credentials – no detour through a linked Facebook Page required.

💡 Before you start:

  • Only the Administrator Account can connect channels.

  • Your Instagram must be switched to a professional account (Business or Creator). Instagram does not allow personal accounts to be connected to third-party tools.

Instagram Login vs. Facebook Login: What's the Difference?

Publishing works the same both ways. The difference is in the data Instagram shares with ZoomSphere, mainly analytics and Stories tracking.

Connect via Facebook (recommended)

Best for agencies and accounts running ads.

  • ✅ Metrics include boosted posts and ads. On top of organic metrics, you'll see Interactions (all post types except Stories) and Views (Reels only), which also count results from paid promotion.

  • ✅ Reposts metric is available.

  • ✅ Tracks every Story, no matter where it was posted.

  • ⚠️ Needs a Facebook Page linked to your Instagram. Learn how to link them 👉🏻 here.

Connect via Instagram

Best for accounts without ads or a Facebook Page.

  • ✅ Log in with Instagram, no Facebook Page needed.

  • ✅ Organic metrics such as Organic Views, Organic Reach, and Organic Interactions.

  • ❌ Metrics exclude boosted posts and ads. Interactions and Views including paid promotion aren't available.

  • ❌ Reposts metric isn't available.

  • ❌ Stories posted outside ZoomSphere may be missed (e.g. Stories published directly in the Instagram app).

💡 Is your Instagram already linked to a Facebook Page? Choose Connect via Facebook.

How To Connect Your Instagram Account

  1. Go to Settings → Social Media Channels and click Add Channel > Instagram.

  2. Select Connect via Instagram.

  3. You'll be redirected to Instagram, where you need to log in to the correct profile and confirm the requested permissions for ZoomSphere.

  4. That's it. Your Instagram account now appears among your connected channels. 🎉

Necessary Permissions

When you connect Instagram via Instagram Login, Instagram asks you which permissions ZoomSphere can use. Please make sure you allow all of them. If any are left unchecked, ZoomSphere won’t be able to publish your posts, and you might see the error “Application does not have permission for this action”.

How to Check Your Permissions

You can check which permissions ZoomSphere has at any time:

  1. Log in to the connected Instagram account in your browser.

  2. Open this 👉🏻 link.

  3. Find ZoomSphere in the list of active apps and click View & Edit.

  4. Make sure both permissions are listed there.

Publishing Permission Missing

If "publishing content as a business" is missing, ZoomSphere can’t publish to the account.

How to Fix it

  • On the same page, remove ZoomSphere from the connected apps.

  • In ZoomSphere, go to Settings → Social media channels and refresh the connection. Make sure to check all of the permissions.

  • Go back to the Scheduler and click Try again on any post that failed to publish.

💡 Posts in error status can’t be rescheduled, but they can be duplicated. However, "Try again" will keep failing until the account is reconnected with all permissions.

Switching the connection type on an existing channel

A channel can only be connected one way at a time. If you connect it the other way, the new connection replaces the existing one.

  • Connected via Facebook and want to switch to Instagram login: Click Add channel > Instagram > Connect via Instagram and log in with your Instagram credentials. The channel moves over to Instagram login.

  • Connected via Instagram and want to switch to Facebook login: Click Add channel > Instagram > Connect via Facebook and authorize access on Facebook. You'll see the usual list of available Instagram accounts. Accounts already connected via Instagram login are marked. If you select one and confirm, the channel reconnects through Facebook login.

💡 To check how a channel is connected, go to Settings → Social Media Channels. Above each channel, you'll see a label: Connected via Facebook or Connected via Instagram.
